Music Guyd: Why Do We Love John LePage?

0

DJ John LePage is one of the most-loved “Bear” DJs in the country. But with his DJ, producing, and remixing talent, combined with his good looks, it’s clear he’s a force to be reckoned with no matter what category you place him in.

A connoisseur of eclectic House, LePage has an ear for the variety of sounds and beats that ignite a dance floor. He’s toured North America for more than a decade, playing at some of the biggest clubs and venues. From his new platform at the helm of his own record label, Groove Records, LePage has also carved a niche for himself as one of the country’s hottest up-and-coming music producers.

So why does everyone love John LePage so much? We sat down with him to find out.

Probably the question you are asked the most, what do you think is hot in the clubs this week and why?

“Everything That I Got” by Kristine W—great set of remixes and Kristine W returns as the Queen of House. I’m also loving DJ Paulo’s & Jackinsky’s remix of “As Long As You Love Me”– their hypnotic and tribal remix takes all of the cheese right out of this Justin Bieber song.

What is your favorite thing about being a DJ?

Nothing beats playing live and really having the crowd get into the groove you’re feeling. It creates an energy in the room that blows me away every time. I also love that I get to travel all over the country, meet different people, and play great music at parties where people are there to let loose and have a good time. It’s a dream job.

How did you get your start?

When I was at university in Montreal I bartended at a club called K.O.X. DJ Billy Carroll from New York City would spin there once a month. One time I hung out with him in the DJ booth during a party he played over Black & Blue weekend. Every record he put on got this phenomenal reaction from the dance floor. I loved the control he had over the mood of the party and I knew then that I wanted to do that as well.

Tell us about one of your favorite moments from traveling around the world to DJ.

I love it when people know the words and sing along to a track. Spinning in P-town recently at the Crown & Anchor I mixed in “Where Have You Been” by Rihanna. At first I noticed a hum emanating from the dance floor. It slowly got louder until it seemed like the entire room was singing along to the track. You know you have a happy dance floor when that happens.

What was the song of the summer?

Do I have to pick just one? It’s a toss-up between “Starships” by Nicki Minaj, Titanium” by David Guetta featuring Sia, and “You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful” by One Direction.

Who is your favorite artist and favorite remixer and why?

Debby Holiday is such a classic club diva, but I’m definitely biased. For artists with a different sound, I love Sia and Ellie Goulding. Danny Verde from Italy has been my favorite remixer for a number of years now. He always has beautiful, melodic, trance-like synths in his productions that are popular in Europe. But his mixes also have a harder edge to them that work on American dance floors.

Do you have any funny tales from the road to share with us?

As a DJ, people often recognize your name before they recognize your face. Recently I was at a big party weekend when I started chatting with this guy. He asked what I did and I told him I was a DJ. He then asked if I knew John LePage because he was his favorite DJ. I thought he was kidding at first, but he was totally serious.

What songs are on the tops of your playlist?

1. Spectrum (Say My Name) (Taito Tikaro & Flavio Zarza Remix) – Florence & The Machine

2. White Light (Steven Redant & Phil Romano Remix) – George Michael

3. Celebrate (Peter Rauhofer Reconstruction) – Mika

Where will you be spinning in the coming weeks?

I was just in my hometown of San Francisco for Folsom weekend. Next, I’m back to Provincetown at the Crown & Anchor for the second time this year; the fall is beautiful there, and my boyfriend is coming with me. I will also be back in San Diego for my quarterly residency at Rich’s.

Editor’s Pick: Coco Peru’s “Balls” and Beauty

0

If you’ve never seen Coco Peru perform, we are truly sorry. Her last solo show, There Comes a Time, was as sublimely wonderful as her sublime, wonderful outfit and hairstyle.

Never fear, girls and boys who want to be girls, Coco’s back, performing a brand-new show, She’s Got Balls, coming to New York’s Laurie Beechman theater, from October 18 through October 21. That’s only four shows, guys and guys who play with dolls.

Lily Tomlin has described Ms. Peru as “One of the last great storytellers,” and we couldn’t agree more. And don’t think you can just stroll in on this act after a night of martinis and margaritas; the chick sells out faster than Mitt Romney at a billionaire fundraiser.

For tickets, visit http://spincyclenyc.com/index.php/liveperformances/1-live-performances/290-coco2012.

Reserve now, laugh later, and let Coco’s wise-ass humor whip your own butt into shape.

GuySpy Real Guy of the Week: SPARXXXIE

2

When it comes to guys, I’m a sucker for the “Bad Boy look” and a bit of attitude. I find it freaking hot when guys are masculine, confident, and even a little cocky. Don’t ask me why, but this just turns me on.

When I saw this sexy hairy muscle guy on my grid, my imagination went crazy thinking of all the things I could do to him. Take a look at his pictures: the sports gear, the scruffy face, those massive arms… Damn! This guy is my ultimate wet dream.

But let me stop here or my keyboard will suffer the consequences. Besides, we want to hear what this hottie has to say.

Guyspy Profile Name:  SparXXXie

Age: 31

Location: Chicago, Illinois

 1. What do you like the most about GuySpy app? The amount of pictures you can post.  Most apps limit you, but with GuySpy you can post more than just a couple photos. Also, the Map feature is unique and innovative.

2. How would you describe your perfect guy? I tend to go for guys of darker complexion…race is not an issue. I dig masculinity, athleticism, and crazy, aggressive sex.

3. What’s the craziest place you ever had sex? Tell us about it. The back of a horse. I’m not sure the horse knew exactly what was going on, but the bumpy ride made for a really hot time.  Can you say “hot-to-trot?” :)

4. What’s your dirty little secret? At one time in my life I had two girlfriends and one boyfriend.  None of them knew about the others, but I was eagerly willing to experiment with all three of them and was definitely too young for any kind of monogamy!

 5. Who would you say is a good role model (straight or gay, female or male) for the gay community? Why? As of late I love all of the anti-bullying work Ben Cohen has done. My family had a really hard time accepting my sexuality for many years, due to a lack of exposure. I believe it is important media coverage when a straight person does a lot of work supporting human rights. Ben Cohen has done an amazing job over the last few years with this. I know that this type of media coverage has had a huge influence on my family’s support of my sexuality.

Nice, right? He’s definitely someone I want to meet, and I wonder if he would let me ride with him sometime soon ;)

If you think you have what it takes to be our next “Real Guy of the Week” e-mail me (jorge@guyspy.comwith your username, location, and age. I will review all the submissions with the rest of the GuySpy team, and pick a candidate. The lucky winner gets to be featured on our blog, and wins a Gift Pack and 30 days free of GuySpy+. Don’t wait any longer to submit your profile. You could be next week’s Guy.

GuySpy’s Man for September: Jonathan Agassi’s Labor of Love

6

It’s nice when people love their work as much as we love to watch it, and GuySpy’s Man for September, Jonathan Agassi, is so nice to look at you’re likely to fall back just gazing at him.

The 28-year-old USA-born/Israel-raised Michael Lucas porn actor revels in his job, loves his co-workers, and loves the, ahem, perks. “I’m a huge exhibitionist,” he says. “I love showing off my skin. I love the attention, the world traveling, and people having me as their sex fantasy.”

Jonathan’s pouty lips don’t lie, even if English isn’t his first language—he didn’t say it, but we think love is. Although he’s in a relationship (yeah, get over it), he’s quick to point out the problematic porn repercussions.

“It is hard if you’re trying to build it with someone who is not in the business,” he says. “It’s much harder to explain to your non-porn hubby that it’s only a job. On the other hand, to maintain a relationship with someone in the porn industry? Impossible!

And then there’s the all-too-common belief that if you’re naked on-camera, your body is up for grabs … literally. “I kind of even understand why,” says Jonathan on guys who cop an unsolicited feel. “I’m not cool with people being rude and grabbing whatever parts of me, thinking that’s appropriate. But I always step back, smiling and say, in the nicest way, ‘Don’t touch this.’”

The tattooed lover boy has just signed on for three more years at Lucas—“I’m so looking forward to lots more great porn”—but does think there’s a time frame for people in his business. “I would say seven to eight years is a good time to do porn and use the max of it,” says Jonathan. “Only a little few could do more than that, I think. It’s hard maintaining your body to always be fit, and always to come up with something the audience has not seen before.

In the porn meantime, Jonathan does offer up one part of his job that’s difficult. “The hard-cock standing-up pictures. Hate it!”

Ah, Jonathan, if ever you need a helping hand …
