IIf you’re wondering why Brent Ray Fraser, GuySpy’s Man for June, looks like he’s been sculpted by the Gods, it might be because he’s actually used his body for the same effect. The 33-year-old Canadian resident and lifelong sculptor, spent years as an exotic entertainer—with a twist.
“I worked at a lot of gay bars in Vancouver,” says Brent. “It helped build my confidence and everything else in my life. I would make paintings with my body, during the strip show. I developed quite a following; I called them live art shows. The gay community was more open-minded of accepting something different than your typical stripper who would just rip his clothes off.”
Brent says that he started stripping in 2004, met some other strippers who showed him the ropes, and decided he wanted to see how far he could take it—and how much the audience wanted it. “Mike L. Angelo was my first name as a stripper. I would make paintings with my penis. Masturbate with my painting; using my cock as a tool to create artwork. Some of those paintings were ten feet long.”
“I don’t know if what I did was legal, but I did it anyway.”
While we don’t doubt the depth of Brent’s, er, work, we’re slightly bent out of shape to learn he’s retired his penis-brush.
“I’m working on abstract works based on nostalgia,” says Brent. “Pin-ups, lots of stuff based around sex and sexuality. It’s mixed media, or multi-media. Paint and photography combined. I take photography and use the imagery with it in the paint, like a collage.
Brent sells his work through private collectors and galleries. As for his own image, that’s no longer up for grabs. “I’m not painting with my penis anymore,” he laughs, “but I’m really enjoying it.”
Maybe if we stroke his ego long enough, we can get him to cover the room with one final masterpiece.
