Berlin has one of the liveliest gay scenes in the world, with a ton of places to choose from. Here are my top picks for the city where every kind of gay boy is willkommen.
The Axel Hotel, Berlin’s gay hotel has rooms made up on sexy black fittings and red glass walls that wouldn’t be out of place in a porn film. It sure is an experience staying here and is always lots of fun, with very friendly and up-for-it guests!
If you’re after a more traditional hotel experience, but one that is just as gay-friendly, but perhaps in a more discreet way, check out one of the Pink Pillow hotels. I stayed at the Abba Hotel, and although I was a bit disappointed that there was no visual presence from the Swedish pop stars, I loved the location, just a short stroll away from the Axel Hotel and one of Berlin’s gay hubs.
The bed was huge, the styling luxurious, and the staff were fantastic – even when I arrived to check-in, still half in my outfit from the Folsom party the night before…
When To Go
Berlin is fun at any time of the year, but if you really want a party experience to remember, head to Folsom Europe in September. This world famous fetish festival has daytime and nighttime events, culminating in the PIG party at a huge factory/warehouse/club on the Saturday night.
This is a hot, friendly, mostly 30+ crowd from all over the world. Don’t be scared off by the fetish gear, you don’t know what you’re missing!
Where to Eat
The Mani restaurant on Torstrasse 136 is the epitome of modern elegant dining with a rare fusion of flavours from all over the Mediterranean – from Spanish to Israeli. The foie gras burger is an experience to remember! They have a superb cocktail list too.
Where to party…
Chantals House Of Shame on a Thursday night is an unforgettable party experience. This cult club night attracts the hottest, coolest and weirdest of Berlin’s gay scene, with regular performances and excellent DJs from across Europe and beyond.
Be prepared to party until the dawn, at this very quirky, incredibly fun, East Berlin club. The lady herself is phenomenal – an international icon in the making.
Sunday’s at GMF is a multi-level club at the top of a huge tower on Alexanderplatz. On one level is pop and fun dance mixes, on the other more serious, edgy House. GMF attracts world class DJs like Mike Kelly and Voltaxx. In the warmer month’s they have an awesome roof terrace – this is the place to be in gay Berlin.
