Ever since Queen frontman Freddie Mercury died of AIDS-related causes in 1991, rumors of a biopic have surfaced. Then there was the flop musical idea that never “broke free.”
Finally, all looked good to go when Sacha Baron Cohen signed on to a film version, and if anyone can portray the flamboyant performer, Borat fits the bill.
That’s changed again, as Cohen, 41, quit the project this summer following clashes over the script with band members Brian May, 66, and Roger Taylor, 64.
Now, according to the Daily Star, producers are keen to bag Daniel Radcliffe, 24, and are prepared to offer him big money to tempt him to play the gay singer, whose many hits include “Another One Bites the Dust,” “We Are the Champions,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
If he takes the part, Hollywood insiders predict it will be the actor’s biggest pay day since he played Harry Potter.
But the funniest reason given for casting Radcliffe, in our opinion, is that “he’s closer in height to Freddie than Sacha.” Hmm, has that ever really affected a movie casting choice? If so, Tom Cruise wouldn’t have a career.
Sacha reporedly withdrew from the project because he felt it was not showing enough of flamboyant Mercury’s extravagant lifestyle.
What do you think, would Radcliffe rock your world?
