For a city with less than 50,000 people, you would assume Palm Springs, Calif. would have a small, humble Pride festival. Not so much. The desert city receives over 1.6 million visitors a year, a fact that was evident during this weekend’s event.
There were Pride-themed golf events, Broadway drag contests, an “equality concert,” and plenty of parties. Our sister publication Out hosted a glamorous gathering with American Express at the Copa nightclub, with a performance fromDrag Race star Courtney Act.
Here TV, owned by the same company as us, hosted another fiesta, this time co-hosted with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The party took place at Gallery 446, which was premiering Rob Lebow’s “Gorgeous” gender-bending photography exhibition.
On Saturday night, Arenas Road was packed with revelers, with the lines for Hunter’s and Score incredibly long. Luckily, Amanda Lepore was there to entertain the crowd while the guys and gals fought their way inside the clubs. Sunday’s parade was packed, even with the sun blazing.
