This week, Barcelona has once again seen a huge influx of cute guys in swimwear, arrive en-mass. There are gangs of blonde East European twinks parading the Ramblas in tank tops, hordes of German muscle daddies reserving their space on the beach at Mar Bella, and teams of pasty Brits with Union Jack speedos wielding Factor 10 sun cream.
This can only mean one thing. Matinee Circuit Festival has arrived.
The largest gay event in Europe (if not the world), Matinee Circuit Festival, or ‘Circuit’ for short, enters its 6th year in 2013. Over 70,000 guys and girls are expected to arrive in the coming days, turning Barcelona into the global epicentre for gay parties, music, culture, gay parties and a few more gay parties.
Last year was my first Matinee Circuit Festival, and it was one of the best weeks of my summer. People often knock Circuit style parties as being full of ‘gay clones’ obsessed with gym and drugs. My experience from last year showed me that this could not be further from the truth. I met fantastic people from all over the world, and what really stood out, was the open, friendly, party atmosphere that I encountered from everyone I spoke to. So don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
The line-up for this year is phenomenal, with pool parties, beach parties, waterpark parties, arena parties and parties at the best clubs in and around Barcelona. Check out the schedule here for details!
The Water Park day (and night) was my favourite party last year. It’s considered the ‘flagship’ party of Circuit Week, and with over 8,000 of the hottest guys and girls in Europe dancing in swimwear, you can probably see why!
Aside from World Class venues, these guys have got some of the biggest DJ talent around to play for them. I’m especially looking forward to hearing Barcelona boys, Ivan Gomez and Nacho Chapado, who’ve both started to take the scene by storm with their awesome remixes. There’s also bound to be some magic from rising talent, DJ Thiago. This sexy Brazilian beast also happens to be one of the nicest guys around.
Perhaps most exciting of all, there’ll be a super-special set from one of the UK’s finest DJs, international sensation, Tom Stephan, aka, Superchumbo. Tom will be recording his set live, turning it into a podcast for us at GuySpy – so if you can’t make it to Circuit this year, you can still experience some of the best music!
Matinee have put together a hilarious video about the ‘gay exodus’ that every Circuit Week creates. Check it out here:
I’ll be around Matinee Circuit Festival all week taking photos, videos and interviews, so if you see the GuySpy logo on me or my glamorous assistant, Teo, come say hi!
