Can we all just remember when Sinead O’Connor was a super hot bald chick that sang songs written by Prince? Now she’s in the news for writing a crazy letter to Miley Cyrus telling her to avoid the pitfalls of a controlling label and to respect her body a bit more. Time reports that Sinead wrote to Cyrus saying:
I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos . . . The music business doesn’t give a shit about you, or any of us. They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted.. and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, ‘they’ will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua, which they bought by selling your body and you will find yourself very alone.
Woof. Okay, this is a very poignant letter; so thank you Sinead for providing a cautionary tale to our young celebrities. But did you not factor in the part where you were talking to Miley Cyrus? Seriously, girl is wearing more sheer sweaters and landing strip bodysuits than an American Apparel model still believing one day she’ll grace the cover of Vogue.
I think the whole point of Cyrus’s super sexual image is to show us how much she is not being controlled by anyone, and to also show that Hannah Montana money will get you everything you’ve ever wanted. How did Miley respond? Just as you would expect. The star took to Twitter to post a photo of a series of troubling tweets from Sinead with the quote: “Before Amanda Bynes…. There was….”. Ha! So topical!
Miley then posted a photo of the infamous Sinead incident from her performance on Saturday Night Live with the caption “SNL.” Not to further any argument with O’Connor, but just to promote the fact that she will actually be performing and hosting SNL this weekend. Are we all imagining the VMA skit they’re gonna do, or are we more concerned of the various “accidental” nip slips we should expect during the live hour? Watch the SNL promo for Miley here; and Lorne Michaels, hold your breath for all of us.
